- Judith’s reaction when she heard the news: “I’ll never spend that, I can’t believe it – it’s better than winning the lottery”

A resident at a care home in Huddersfield has enjoyed the ultimate retail therapy session after a video of her revealing her dream of going on a shopping spree went viral with over a million views – resulting in a surprise £500 shopping trip at The White Rose shopping centre.
86-year-old, Judith Snell, who lives at Lindley Park care home in Huddersfield, had one simple wish when she was asked what she would love to do, she said, “Go shopping and treat myself.”
Judith was recently filmed and interviewed about her wish by Bailey Greetham, founder of Be Great Fitness, a company which works with Lindley Park to help residents stay active and engaged. The unprecedented response on social media triggered Bailey to set up the spree.
Bailey reached out to The White Rose shopping centre to see if they could help make Judith’s dream a reality. The shopping centre went above and beyond, gifting Judith £500 to spend on whatever she wanted, as well as treating her to lunch.
Judith moved into Lindley Park care home in December 2025, and was joined on her special day by Bailey and care home manager, Anna Chan.
The 86-year-old was keen to find herself a new outfit and was looking forward to having a good look around the shops.
Judith bought shoes, a handbag, perfume and a dress – during the trip Judith said, “I think I am dreaming.”
And there was an extra-special connection to the experience – Judith worked in retail earlier in her life, at what was then a supermarket before it became Tesco.
After enjoying a browse around the centre, Judith was treated to lunch at Bianco Lounge.
Judith said, “I like going out and shopping it is very enjoyable. I loved having a good look around and finding something new and interesting. It was lovely to be able to have a proper shopping trip and spend some money on myself.”
Judith has always enjoyed getting out and about and regularly enjoys trips away from the care home, but said it had been a very long time since she had been able to enjoy a shopping trip where she could really splash out on herself.
Although Judith was married, she never had children and is particularly close to her nieces, who remain an important part of her life.
Anna Chan, manager at Lindley Park, said the team was delighted to see Judith’s wish become a reality.
Anna added, “Judith’s wish was wonderfully simple – she wanted to go shopping, have a good look around and treat herself to something new. It has been fantastic to see how a few people coming together have turned that wish into such a memorable day for her.
“We are incredibly grateful to Bailey and to The White Rose for helping to make it happen. Seeing Judith enjoying herself, choosing something special and simply having the freedom to browse and enjoy the day was absolutely wonderful.
“It is exactly what our Make a Wish initiative is all about – listening to what matters to our residents and helping them create experiences and memories that are meaningful to them.”
Bailey Greetham, founder of Be Great Fitness, added, “When I saw Judith talking about wanting to go on a shopping spree, I knew we had to see if we could make it happen. Judith and I have spoken about going on a trip together before, but it had never quite worked out, so it felt particularly special to be able to take her this time.
“The response from The White Rose was incredible. To give Judith £500 to spend and then treat her to lunch was incredibly generous, and it was brilliant to see how much she enjoyed herself. It was a real reminder that sometimes the simplest wishes can mean the most.”
The shopping trip was organised through Lindley Park’s Make a Wish initiative, which aims to help residents fulfil personal ambitions, revisit favourite pastimes and enjoy experiences that are important to them.
