This week, luxury care home Willowbrook View in Wichelstowe, Swindon hosted a town-wide community litter pick event in partnership with Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council. The event saw residents, local school kids, their families, and even several councillors roll up their sleeves and work together to clean up the streets.

Willowbrook – Local School Kids joins the fun

The day began at Willowbrook View’s beautiful grounds on Barwell Avenue; where over 20 people gathered to arm themselves with bin bags, grabber sticks, and refreshments before heading out into the community! In addition to a handful of passionate residents from the home, they were also joined by a group of energetic youngsters from Kingfisher Primary School – which borders Willowbrook View via a shared community garden.

Jane Edwards, General Manager at Willowbrook View, comments:

“The litter pick was such a delightful day for our residents, who I think really enjoyed connecting with folk in the community and making a meaningful contribution to the town. Clean and well-maintained streets make such a huge difference to how people relate to where they live; and the feeling of coming together for a common cause was really fantastic!”

The event is part of Keep Britain Tidy’s “Love Where You Live” initiative; a national project which aims to inspire local people to work together to keep their communities clean. Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council has been enthusiastically supporting this project by setting up ‘litter pick stations’ across Wroughton, and plans to open a station in Wichelstowe soon.

However, the Council doesn’t yet have a permanent base in Wichelstowe, and so Willowbrook View offered to support the project. Customer Relationship Manager Christoper Guest led the charge on arranging the litter pick event – and even helped convince some of the home’s local partners to join the fun!

Amanda Woodhead, Community Projects & Grants Officer at Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council, said:

“We are so grateful to Willowbrook View for hosting this event and for being such helpful and proactive partners! Our goal is to create a cleaner, happier, and more connected community by inspiring people to come together and maintain the places they love. For us, ‘Love Where You Live’ is as much about people as it is about places – so we’re thrilled to have built such a strong connection with Willowbrook View”.
