MP Joy Morrissey Backs Independent, choice-led, Safety Monitoring in Care Homes
At Care Campaign for the Vulnerable, we have always championed safety, dignity, and transparency in care. Our work —to ensure vulnerable people receive the safest care possible—is not just a professional calling, it is deeply personal. So, we were incredibly pleased to recently meet with Joy Morrissey MP, who has publicly declared her full support for our work to bring independent, choice-led safety monitoring into care homes.
Joy’s support is not new to us—she has been a consistent and valued presence at our events and a genuine advocate for safer standards in social care. What is especially exciting now is her intention to take this issue into Parliament, with plans to bring forward a Private Members’ Bill. This marks a significant step forward in placing safety monitoring, particularly in dementia care, firmly on the national agenda.
As we stand today, Care Campaign for the Vulnerable is already leading the conversation on greater transparency in care – working alongside progressive care providers who are implementing this technology across their dementia care communities. These providers are showing incredible leadership by embracing transparency and empowering residents and their families with choice. We’ve seen firsthand how this approach not only improves safety but also uplifts the confidence and morale of care staff.
But more must be done. That’s why we are calling for open collaboration with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to ensure this technology can be part of the wider safety solution within regulated care. We want to see providers who choose to adopt independent safety monitoring supported—not hindered—in their commitment to best practice.
Joy Morrissey’s involvement and her determination to help elevate our campaign to Parliamentary level are both timely and essential. We are extremely grateful for her continued encouragement and leadership. Her belief in the cause strengthens our resolve and brings hope to families across the country who want to see real, meaningful change.
As we continue to work across the care sector, supporting families and providers alike, we remain committed to the values of openness, compassion, and protection for those who need it most. This isn’t just about technology—it’s about culture. It’s about giving people in care, their loved ones, and the staff who support them, the confidence that safety will always be a priority.
CCFTV is proud to work alongside care professionals who share this vision and even prouder to now be working with a Member of Parliament who is as committed as we are to making it a reality.
