Optimus has completed the application of its advanced interior medical coating system at Wilmslow Health Centre, marking a UK first for the use of this Japanese nanotechnology within a primary healthcare setting.  The project involved the application of Optimus Interior Medical Paint, a water-based coating developed using proprietary Japanese nanotechnology and tested to ISO 21702 standards. The coating is designed to significantly reduce surface-level activity of both enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, as well as harmful bacteria, including MRSA and E. coli. Once applied, walls become an active surface that works continuously to support infection control within high-footfall clinical environments.

Unlike conventional paints, the Optimus system does more than decorate. It transforms interior surfaces into a preventative layer that complements existing cleaning and hygiene protocols, helping reduce reliance on repeated chemical disinfection while supporting a cleaner, safer indoor environment for patients and staff.

Primary care facilities face constant pressure to balance infection prevention with uninterrupted patient services. The installation at Wilmslow Health Centre demonstrates how preventative surface technology can be integrated efficiently into NHS settings without disruption to day-to-day operations.

Commenting on the project, Dr Amar Ahmed, Owner of the practice, said:  “Proud to be leading the way as the first healthcare establishment in the UK using state-of-the-art Japanese nanotechnology, Optimus Paint UK, to help reduce infection risk. Infection control has officially gone wall-to-wall…”

Optimus worked in close collaboration with the clinical leadership team to deliver the application in line with healthcare requirements. The full process was documented, with further insight and video content to be released in the coming weeks. This installation forms part of Optimus’ wider UK strategy to introduce scientifically tested, sustainable coating technologies across healthcare, education, housing, and public infrastructure—supporting public health, building performance, and long-term environmental responsibility.
