Shipdham Manor care home, situated on Chapel Street in Shipdham, came together with the local community for an unforgettable event of fundraising bingo! Organised by team members Chelsea, Rachel, and Jess, the gathering aimed to provide a fun evening of bingo while also supporting a worthy cause – raising funds for the local church.

The atmosphere was buzzing at the WI Hall in Shipdham as residents Jenny, Audrey, Sheila, and a host of other wonderful ladies eagerly awaited the start of the games. With game faces on and excitement in the air, they dove into ten rounds of bingo- each round promising the chance to win exciting prizes. Though luck was elusive in the main games, Audrey came tantalisingly close to a £36 win, falling short by just one number. Nevertheless, spirits remained high, and excitement reached a peak during the raffle, where each participant found themselves leaving with a prize.

Reflecting on the event, Activities Co-Ordinator Chelsea Mears expressed her gratitude to her fellow organisers and the attendees. “It felt incredibly rewarding to see everyone come together for a night of fun and laughter,” she shared. “The support from Rachel, Jess, and all the lovely ladies made the evening truly special.”

Among the attendees, Sheila’s experience stood out. Initially hesitant about joining, having only played bingo within the confines of her home, she was quickly won over by the lively atmosphere. “I was in two minds about going, but I’m so glad Chelsea convinced me,” Sheila remarked. “Although she did have a bit of trouble pushing me up the hill in my wheelchair!”

However, the true highlight of the evening lay in the community’s generosity and support for the local church. Through the collective efforts of all involved, the event managed to raise over £400. Chelsea expressed her excitement about the impact this would have on the church’s initiatives, pledging Shipdham Manor’s continued support and involvement in their endeavours.

Looking ahead, anticipation is already building for future events and activities within the care home. The success of the bingo night has strengthened the sense of community in Shipdham, Norfolk, reinforcing the importance of coming together for fun and supporting local causes.
